Development refers to the level or standard of living that a country has.
UN measures Human Development using Economic, Social, and Demographic measures
More Developed Countries have the highest standard of living. They score high in all categories. Most jobs are in the tertiary, quarternary and quinary sectors. They have a small number of workers in the primary and secondary sectors. MDCs include: US, W. Europe, Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand. They are referred to as the CORE countries
Emerging Countries have a medium standard of living. They score high in some areas and low in other areas. Most jobs are in the secondary and primary sectors. They have a small number of workers in the tertiary sector. Emerging Countries include: Mexico, India, China, etc. They are referred to as semi-periphery countries.
Less Developed Countries have the lowest standard of living. They score low in all categories. Nearly all people work in the primary sector, with subsistence farming being the most common job. LDCs include: countries of Africa, SE Asia. They are referred to a PERIPHERY countries.
